SAVANNAH SRINT TRIATHLON SERIES 2011 - April 9, 2011
From Mike Roby
Last weekend my family and I decided to take a few days off and head to Savannah for a small trip. I, like most of you immediately checked out the race schedule and saw that Savannah was hosting a triathlon while we were there (lucky me!). We got up Saturday morning and headed over to the race where I ran into several FCAE teammates from the Savannah huddle. It was cool to catch up with the folks from down there and also very cool to encourage each other along the course. The race itself was great. Swim was in a small lake that all the spectators could see, the bike was lightening fast, and the run was around the lake which allowed the participants and spectators to see just about the entire run. Overall I had a great time and look forward to racing in Savannah again soon.
One thing that stood out to me was something that God showed me while I was driving back home that afternoon. Before the race I was standing in the dreaded "body marking line". As most of you know this is typically the slowest and longest line of the day, besides maybe the bathrooms.ha..ha. As I approached the front of the line the young lady that was body marking lost track of who was next in line. I actually had two people in front of me but she thought I was next. I stopped her and pointed out that two people were waiting in front of me. She turned around and finished those two guys. When she finally got back to me she noticed my FCAE jersey and said, "oh...that explains it, you're one of the FCA Endurance guys." My response was "excuse me." She replied "most others would have just let me mark them and not been so honest." I chuckled and replied, "well, that's what we're called to do."
Later in the day I beat myself up pretty bad because I realized that maybe I had missed an opportunity to share with this young lady. It was then pressed on me that even when we fail witnessing opportunities we can still be an example for Christ. She obviously had been in contact with other FCAE teammates prior to this encounter. Those before me had set a GREAT example by her recognizing the FCAE shirt and colors. Secondly, our honesty and integrity is something we can't take lightly. Would I have liked to jump in front of the line and be done......absolutely, but it never crossed my mind until she said something. I thank God that at times I can allow God to work through me even without thinking about it. I just pray that I can be "consistent" and "intentional" in ALL parts of my life.
Remember, those yellow colors you wear represent something bigger than a small team from South Metro Atlanta. People are WATCHING!
